Elysée Treaty Celebration 2017 [fr]

To commemorate the 54th anniversary of the Elysée Treaty, the Consulate General of France, the Consulate General of the Federal Republic of Germany, the Alliance Française and the Goethe-Zentrum Atlanta will host a lecture and discussion on “Europe: What’s Next? Elections in France and Germany”.

The event will be held on February 2 at 7:30 p.m. and will bring together Maurin Picard, New York-based correspondent for Le Figaro and Dr. Dieter Dettke of Georgetown University, who will share their unique perspectives on the subject during the discussion which will be moderated by Rickey Bevington, Anchor/Correspondent for Georgia Public Broadcasting. French Consul General Louis de Corail and German Consul General Ambassador Detlev Ruenger will also provide opening remarks.

About the Speakers

Journalist and U.S. correspondent for Le Figaro, Le Soir, and Sud Ouest, Maurin Picard has covered American politics since 2011. He published "Metamorphosis of the United States: 1965-2015" with Ateliers Henry-Dougier and "Ordinary Heros" with Perrin Editions, both in 2016. He lives in New York with his family.

Dr. Dieter Dettke is a foreign and security policy specialist, author and editor of numerous publications on German, European, and U.S. foreign and security issues. His most recent book is “Germany Says ‘No’: The Iraq War and the Future of German Foreign and Security Policy,” published by theWoodrow Wilson Center Press and The Johns Hopkins University Press, Washington D.C. and Baltimore, 2009. Currently Adjunct Professor at Georgetown University, Dr. Dettke teaches Politics of European Security.

Rickey Bevington is Senior Anchor/Correspondent with Georgia Public Broadcasting and the local host for NPR’s nationally syndicated "All Things Considered" weekdays from 4 to 7 p.m. Her work is recognized by local and national journalism organizations including the Southeast Emmys, Georgia Association of Broadcasters, Public Radio News Directors Inc, Associated Press and Society of Professional Journalists.
