France-Atlanta 2016: Close up on Cultural Expressions [fr]

The 7th edition of France Atlanta will highlight the work of young and up-and-coming contemporary French artists in a series of cultural events organized in collaboration with some of the city’s best creative minds and local institutions.

  • Cartooning for Peace: The Art of Democracy

World renowned press cartoonists Plantu (Le Monde, France), Kichka (Courrier International, Israel/Belgium) and Mike Luckovich (Atlanta Journal-Constitution, USA) will participate in a fun, engaging and provocative discussion and cartoon demo on free speech in a democratic society. Register here.

*In conjunction with this special event, an outdoor exhibition of cartoons by “Cartooning for Peace” artists will be on display as part of ELEVATE (Broad St. SW near the Mammal Gallery) from Oct. 13 to 21, 2016.

  • Contemporary Dance: REMOVING (remixed), a US Premiere

29 year old choreographer Noé Soulier’s distinctive experimental approach always leaves viewers with a sense of intrigue, compelling us to question our relation to body and movement. In REMOVING (remixed), Soulier and three dancers will explore everyday actions, breaking down motion into a series of gestures in an attempt to redefine our perception and understanding of movement.   • ‘yesterday she plowed the land’: A new ballet by Daniel Wohl, glo & Sonic Generator

A worldwide premiere of Atlanta-based glo and Sonic Generator hybrid performance of amplified orchestra, electronics, and movement, ‘yesterday she plowed the land’ is a multi-sensory experience of Paris-born sound artist Daniel Wohl’s CYCLES, a provocative piece which blends electronic music with acoustic instrumentation. Performed by 6 musicians of Georgia Tech’s Ensemble-in-Residence and 4 glo artists to a choreography by Lauri Stallings. Free event. Register here.

  • TOMORROW | US Southeast Premiere

A worldwide phenomenon since its 2015 release, globetrotting documentary “Tomorrow” (Demain) focuses on solutions to the issue of climate change by taking a deep look at the ways activists and eco-conscious citizens are trying to make the world a better, greener and more sustainable place. Directed by activist Cyril Dion and actress Mélanie Laurent, this thought-provoking movie will be hosted in a special screening in Atlanta. Free event. Register here.
