Temporary long stay visa and long stay visa for Monaco

You may apply for a visa at the Consulate General of France in Atlanta if you are a resident in the following states: Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee (please provide a copy of your driving license).

1. Should I apply for a temporary long stay visa or a long stay visa?


A temporary long stay visa is delivered to holders of a 3 to 6 months work contract. The visa is issued for the same duration as the contract. In any other cases, you should apply for a long stay visa.

2. Do I need a long stay visa?


Yes, except if you are a citizen of the European Economic Area, of Switzerland or if you have been living in France for more than a year; in these cases, you can directly apply for a residence permit in Monaco.

3. How to make an appointment?


For security reasons, all applicants have to appear personally at the Consulate General of France in Atlanta.

The visa section is open to the public on an appointment basis, with no walk-ins allowed.

No appointment can be made by phone or by e-mailing us. If you are not able to attend, please free a slot by canceling your appointment.

Make sure you bring all the required documents when coming to the Consulate General.

4. Processing time


Processing time may take several months. The consulate general of France is not able to expedite this process as the French authorities are not involved in the decision-making. If you need further information, you should contact the immigration authorities in Monaco : http://www.police.gouv.mc.

5. Requirements for temporary long stay visa


You must provide the originals plus 2 photocopies of each document submitted with the application.

- Two application forms filled out completely and signed by the applicant.

- Two (2) ID pictures (white background, full face, no glasses nor hat, closed mouth).

- Original passport or travel document (+ two copies of the identity pages).Your passport must have been issued less than 10 years ago, be valid for at least fifteen months and have at least 2 blank visas pages left.

- Status in the US - If you are not a US citizen, copy of your green card or visa.

- Your work contract stamped by the Labor Department in Monaco.

- A self-addressed prepaid EXPRESS MAIL envelope from FEDEX and UPS. You may use one envelope per family. The Consulate General of France in Atlanta cannot be held responsible for loss of mail leaving the consulate.

6. Requirements for long stay visa


You must provide the originals plus 2 photocopies of each document submitted with the application.

- Two application forms (click here for the English version) filled out completely and signed by the applicant.

- One ID picture, taken less than 90 days ago.

- Original passport or travel document (+ two copies of the identity pages) valid for at least fifteen months. Make sure your passport has blank pages left to affix the visa.

- Status in the US - If you are not a US citizen, copy of your green card or visa.

- Recent Police Record to be obtained from the F.B.I. (even if blank record) : FBI Identification Record. Allow 8-10 weeks for processing, upon receipt to the FBI

- Letter stating that you have never been convicted in any country, that you have never been bankrupt and that you are not currently dealing with police or judiciary issues.

- According to the purpose of your stay in Monaco:
A work contract stamped by the Labour Department in Monaco;
Or an application for a permit to start a business or a company in Monaco;
Or a marriage certificate for spouses of French citizens, of Monaco citizens or of foreigners residing in Monaco;
Or an official letter from your bank stating that you have sufficient means of support to live in Monaco without working.

- Proof of accommodation in Monaco:
A copy of your title deeds;
Or a copy of your lease or rental agreement;
Or a certificate of free accomodation issued by the public security of Monaco;
Or an affidavit stating that you will provide such documents to the Monaco authorities in the 3 months following your arrival.

A self-addressed prepaid EXPRESS MAIL envelope from the US POST OFFICE, FEDEX or UPS.

7. Important information


The consular administration has full authority to evaluate and request more documents than those submitted by the applicant.

Please be aware that submitting the aforementioned documents does not guarantee the approval of the visa.

Please note that holders of visas are still subject to immigration control upon first entry into France and Monaco. The visa itself does not grant the right to enter France and Monaco.
